Information is an essential input to national development. The Library has great responsibility in harnessing and utilization of information. Guru Gobind Singh College of Engineering & Technology (GGSCET), Talwandi Sabo established in the year 2001 encourages every student to use the library which is automated and has been carefully designed keeping in view its easy accessibility. Central Library of GGSCET is located on the first floor of main block. At present the library has a stock of about 15000 Books and 2500 titles related to Engineering & Management, catering to the needs of about 1600 members (Staff & Students) imparting / pursuing studies in four different branches of Engineering & Management. To keep its readers abreast with the latest developments in Engineering & Technology the library is subscribing 70 Journals (National & International) in the printed form along with e-journals. GGSCET central library use BSS 2.0 software which is based on smart card, barcode & SMS technologies. The central library is also having e-browsing section to make use of most popular mode of Information sharing with the help of computers, LCD projector and has collection of 1000 CD’s and DVDs.

Mission

Our mission is to update & satisfy knowledge related needs solving problems of the reader by providing them electronics resource / non book materials as well as book material for faculties growth & development in the society. Standard text books and books by author of repute in all fields taught at the college are stocked. The college library follows a policy of buying multiple copies of many of these books to make them available to a large number of students. There is no question of budget restraint when it comes to the buying of books. Thus students are not likely to be handicapped for want of reference materials at any time.

The mission of our college central library is not only to make the students ‘readers’ but to make them ‘information seekers’, ‘information confirmers’ and ‘information consolidators’ by providing them a fully computerized library. Our library is stocked with technical books, reference books, general books, national and international journals, magazines, e-books and e-journals. Audio-visual study material and free internet service is provided to the students through e-browsing lab. GGSCET central library is a Model Library in the Malwa region and occupies a place of pride in our college. Library is fully air conditioned with separate spacious reading hall for students and faculty. Our digital library works on BSS-2.0 software with smart card, bar code and SMS Technology.

GGSCET central library has six sections.

Reference Section
Reference Section is arranged in such a manner that it preserves all the rare books, reference tools, one copy of all text books for reference study.

Borrowing Section
Library has separate stack area from the reading hall which comprises of all the books material dealing with engineering and management field which can be issued by the readers.

Circulation Section
There are at present four computers with one server running in the circulation section of our library, one computer for each issue and return of books, one computer to check the status of readers and one to search out books available in the library.

Periodical Section
Central Library is subscribing total 70 international, national and e-journals, library has stock of 300 back volumes of journals. Our library daily receive thirteen newspapers in three different languages.

E-Browsing Section
Central Library e-browsing section is having fifteen computers all with internet facility which is provided free to all the members of the library (Students / Staff).In e-browsing section students and staff can use internet in free time to search all new research and other related material of their fields.

Reading Section
Fully air conditioned reading hall with 90 chairs sitting capacity, provides comfortable and calm environment for study. Separate reading tables for faculty and students. Library reading hall is attached with Borrowing Section.

Circulation services
Books are issued for fifteen days to the students & six month for faculty members.

OPAC Service
Online public access catalogue works for the search of any book is provided.

Reference Service
Reference Service is also provided in the central library.

Reprographic Service    
Reprographic service also provide in the library.

Library has adopted open access system which enables the readers to go to the books shelves & select the books & other resources themselves. All the books are classified to Dewey decimal classification scheme & computerized catalogue helps the readers for search of books & other materials.     

 

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR LIBRARY USERS

  1. Bring your Digital card while you visit to library. Without digital card you may be asked to leave the library.           
  2. No one is allowed to take his personal/issued books inside the library.
  3. Put all your belongings at the property counter.
  4. Get yourself checked at exit point while you go outside.
  5. Try to maintain PIN DROP SILENCE in & around the Library.
  6. The Circulation Counter shall be closed 20 minutes before the closing of the   Library.
  7. Reference books, Newspapers and Magazines / Journals should not be taken out.
  8. The borrower will be responsible for any loss or non return of any book issued against his/her digital card.                         
  9. Help to keep the books Neat & Clean.
